What is it like being a senior on the team?

It feels weird because I don’t feel like I’m all big and bad like I saw the seniors from when I was in ninth grade.

What has volleyball meant to you?

I just think it fun as something to do as a sport to stay active and I like to play sometimes on Tuesday nights with adult volleyball but it’s just a lot of fun to play.

Favorite memory:

It was fun to play in the tournament playing all those games in a row. It was fun to be able to get in the groove of playing and staying in it instead of leaving for a couple of days and then trying to get back into it. It was fun being with the team on the court and on the bench.

What is it like being a senior on the team?

It’s a big responsibility being a captain now and leading the team through warmups. Underclassmen look up to me and ask me questions and it’s different with me having the responsibility instead of asking the questions, but it’s fun being able to be there physically and spiritually for these girls.

What has volleyball meant to you?

Volleyball is my favorite sport and I hope to play in college. It’s been a good opportunity to meet friends. I have met a lot of really cool people and coaches. I am really glad I played because it brings the MACA girls together and is a lot of fun.

Favorite senior year memory:

Winning the MSSD Tournament last weekend. It was the best because we weren’t 100% confident but we were able to win.

Katya Schaefer

What is it like being a senior on the team?

People look up to you more because you’re older and know more and so expectations from coaches are higher this year.

What has volleyball meant to you?

It has built some friendships for me and it’s a fun thing to do to stay connected with some of the girls in different grades and strengthens my relationships with them

Favorite memory:

In the tournament we had, we played really well together as a team and it was a lot of fun to go to a tournament and play a bunch of teams that aren’t in our conference.

What is it like being a senior on the team?

The biggest part is just being there for all of the younger girls. It’s cool because they are looking up to you and it’s your last year to really influence them and it helps train the leadership side of things.

What has volleyball meant to you?

I think it really helped me become more of a leader. It has helped me be more encouraging and I like how it has been in a Christian environment so it’s really encouraging. I love volleyball and I’ve always wanted to play. I wish I started earlier.

Favorite memory:

The bus rides were always fun. On the bus, we would joke around with coach Blair and have funny fake arguments about things like which song is better or what kind of food was good.

What is it like being a senior on the team?

It is cool that you have an influence on the people younger than you. If you are positive you can see them be positive. Also, I think it was fun to be on the same team as my sister this year who is a freshman.

What has volleyball meant to you?

It’s nice to have a team and it allows you to interact with younger grades more than you normally would. You see them after school and sometimes go on runs to McDonald's before practice. It’s just a lot of fun and has brought me closer to people including my sister.

Favorite memory:

We just won our tournament. I don’t think anyone thought we would do very well but we won the whole tournament and that was really fun. In the last game, we won the first set but in the second set, we didn’t do very well. I wanted to win the third set so bad. We all were upset about the second set but we brought it together and won the last one.
