MACA September Athletes of the Month

Kylie DesLauriers, Sophomore, Varsity Volleyball

Kylie has been an incredibly important piece of the MACA varsity volleyball team, both through her play and her leadership. She was named co-captain, has been the leader in both kills and aces throughout the season, and helped lead the the Lions to their first championship at the Model Invitational tournament in Washington DC. “I’ve been so impressed with Kylie’s growth over the last year,” says Coach Blair. “She’s taken a leap, both in her ability as a player and in her ability to inspire her teammates.” With an opportunity to impress at the Tiger Paws tourney, hosted by Woodrow Wilson High School, and with conference playoffs looming, Kylie aims to take one more leap to help lead the Lions to victory.

Jacob Brethauer, Senior, Varsity Soccer

Jacob has worked hard throughout the soccer season, giving maximum effort and leading by example. His calm presence, toughness, leadership, and character are an encouragement to the Varsity soccer team to be diligent and responsible in training, games, and interactions off the field. Although primarily a defensive midfielder, Jacob has scored and assisted this season so far and hopefully will add to his tally during the remainder of the season. "Jacob is an integral part of our soccer team," says Coach Schuetz, "and his commitment to his team and his sport speaks of his godly character." Jacob takes time to invest in his teammates and has also supported and mentored many of the elementary-aged MACA soccer players. Keep up the good work, Jacob!

Veda Doxzen, 8th Grade, Middle School Volleyball

A third year MS A team member and the team floor captain, Veda has been a rock for this year’s team which hopes to defend their MIAC title. She is leading the team in passing percentage, is at the top in kills with 51 and is one of the toughest servers with 28 aces. But it’s not just her play that is helping with the success of this team. Coach Doxzen says, “Veda works hard and practices off the court so she can play her best for the team. But what is most valuable is her leadership on the court. And she takes that responsibility very seriously.” As a big communicator, she brings stability during play. Veda is encouraging and enjoys celebrating all the successes each team member has had. And they’ve had a lot of success this season, as the whole team is working hard in its quest for another MIAC Championship.

Carson Gilbert, 7th Grade, Middle School Soccer

Carson is a valuable player on the middle school soccer team. Carson scored 4 goals against Barnesville and 1 goal against Liberty Christian  and is currently the leading scorer for the middle school boys soccer team. He always gives his very best. Coach Teixeira states, "Along with his good attitude and hard work both on and off the field, Carson has earned the respect of his peers and teammates.
