MACA October Athletes of the Month

Caitlyn Gilbert, Senior, Varsity Volleyball

Caitlyn Gilbert has been leading the Lions throughout the season with both her leadership and her play on the court. She was the Most Valuable Player at the Model Invitation Tournament back in September. She finished the season with a team high 207 digs, to go along with her 155 kills. She had the match of her career in the MCST quarterfinal match against Grace Brethren Christian School of Clinton, accumulating 15 kills in 3 sets. “Caitlyn has been the heart and soul of our team all season,” says Coach Blair. “She’s been our captain, played at a consistently high level, and has led on and off the court. I’m very proud of her coming back off of several injuries this past year to have this type of senior campaign.”

Charley Burrall, Junior, Varsity Soccer

Charley has been an important part of MACA soccer over the past 3 years and has shown growth and improvement as a player and teammate this season. Coach Schuetz states, "As an individual, Charley embodies what we, as a team desire to accomplish --playing with a strong work ethic, character, improvement, supporting teammates, and passion." Charley is known as a guy who hustles and gives maximum effort on the field all the time. Charley loves the game of soccer and that joy spreads to his teammates. In our run to the conference final, Charley scored both goals in the quarterfinal, scored and assisted in the semifinal, and played well in the final, making the MIAC all-tournament team. Keep up the great work, Charley!

Savannah Brown, 7th Grade, Middle School Volleyball

Savannah has been an asset to the MS A team this season. She has been the team’s most consistent server with over a 95% efficiency and 20+ aces contributing greatly to the success of this team. Coach Doxzen comments, “Savannah can always be heard from the sidelines communicating on the court by calling the ball and encouraging her teammates. We could always count on her offering to pray for the team at practices and games and to praise her teammates for their success. Another thing that makes her a successful player is she always plays all out, never giving up on the ball. Every team needs well-rounded players like Savannah to help them be successful.”

Brady Shinabery, 8th Grade, Middle School Soccer

Brady was a staple in this years middle school team, leading the team in 3 clean sheets in the month of October. He also scored a great goal dribbling from almost half field, through 5 plus players, and around the goalkeeper. He organized the defensive line and became a good communicator, which was out of character for him. He grew leaps and bounds as a player and teammate this season.
